Once the entry or entries are located on the property, the area around the entry is screened and a one-way raccoon door is installed. Our one-way raccoon doors are premium quality, made of steel and plexiglass. Some companies, in contrast, use cheaper, plastic-framed doors that are susceptible to binding. The raccoon(s) will come out in its own with no harm done to it. Once the raccoon is out, it will be unable to re-enter the area and is free to go off on its own. If we feel it is necessary, multiple doors may be installed. We will return in a few days, once we are sure the raccoon has left to remove the one-way raccoon door, make the appropriate repairs, and add more screen.
Raccoons typically give birth from March to June. If you discover you have a raccoon tenant in your home during these months, there may also be babies. Baby raccoons under the age of 8 weeks will need to be removed manually by a wildlife control technician. The baby raccoons will then be placed outside in a baby box, where they can be easily found by the mother raccoon and she will relocate them.
Raccoon prevention is easier than raccoon removal. Fixing and screening small holes and other vulnerable areas will be recommended to limit the chances of a raccoon returning in the future. Trapping is only done when necessary and as a last resort.
