Skunks are not good climbers but are excellent diggers. They will be found on the ground level areas of properties, usually under decks and sheds. Any part of the perimeter around the deck and shed that hover over dirt or lawn should be screened. Proper screening of these areas involves digging a trench around the structure, then laying screen at the bottom of the trench and connecting it to the bottom of the deck or shed. A one-way door will then be installed to give the skunk an easy way out. Once out, it will be unable to re-enter and will wander off on its own.

Skunks are sometimes to get into, but not out of, window wells, leaving them stuck. In this case the skunk will have to be removed by trap or manually by a wildlife control technician.
